Hi all,
Quick update. Our heaviest database users flagged that scanning was taking too long, so we have decoupled the AI scanning from adding a location. You now get a fast scan experience (just like the old days), and the deep scanning runs in the background (throttled, so it stays out of your way).
Open Rando settings and you will see a new Advanced Sample Analysis option. It keeps working through your samples in the background for richer insights on each file. Add your location, get straight back to making music, and quit whenever you like. Rando remembers where it left off.
Next week we will do a final database pass and look at making scanning faster still.
We also shipped some nice features. My favorite: you can now resume playing samples after hitting Stop All. Collecting loops together to see what they bring me is one of my favorite ways to work in Rando, and it now works a treat. It is saved in your preferences and with your file!

This is what we changed/fixes/added this week:
- Display when the sample location scanner crashes
- Display when the sample location scanner hangs and improve scanning logs
- Rename sample location rescan to refresh
- Improve look of scanning progress bar
- Fix sample location scanning issue on macOS when using AI classification
- Fix trigger mode sync (magic) and sequencer sync in the DAW
- Do not show AI scanning progress in the sample locations, but in theΒ "Advance Sample Analysis" switch instead
- Use clock icon for triggermode sync (the old magic)
- Use less threads for scanning
- Fix potential crash if analysis does not succeed for a file
- Fix latch stop all button is visible in settings
- Add resume all for latched notes
Please let us know how the experience is now. We're looking forward to your replies!
The actual launch has been moved up to June 8th. Sorry for that, but having my birthday and launching a new update on the same day might just be a little bit too much on June 1st! π
All the best,

Hey everyone,
We've had a great week! The team's been heads-down on a stack of fixes and updates, and Rando 2 keeps getting better with every build.
Quick heads-up: we're closing in on the June 1st release, which means there's only one week left for beta feedback. After that, the build is locked.
So if you can find a moment this week, please load up the latest beta and put it through its paces. Make a beat, push it around, try the things you'd actually do in a session. Anything that feels off, anything that delights you, anything that breaks: tell us. Your notes have shaped this release more than you probably realize, and this is the last window to get your fingerprints on it.
When Rando scans your samples, you don't have to wait around (!). You're free to move away from the sample processing screen, because Rando is smart and built efficiently, so it keeps scanning in the background.
Here's how it works. The first pass is a quick filename scan, the same way Rando 2.0.06 and earlier worked. On top of that we've added a second layer that digs deeper into the audio files, pulling out metadata, checksums, audio classification, the works. All of that runs quietly on a background thread, so it barely touches your CPU or GPU. We kept it deliberately light so you can start creating right away.
So once again: there's no need to stare at the progress bar until it hits 100%. Let it run in the background and get going.
Also we have removed the rescan icons. They will be back next week as it confused some users!
Thanks for being part of this. Have a great weekend, and we'll talk soon.

Hi all,
We had a great week wrapping up the preset manager for the keyboard designer. Thanks to all your great suggestions, we made it work more intuitively!
The next two weeks, we will be focusing on tackling more bugs and finalising the new Audio Classification Routine.
I am very pleased to announce that we have found a way to keep Rando's fast scanning while doing audio classification in the background, so you are not hindered as a user!
More news will follow once this has been implemented!
Changes made this week:
- Fix clearing a note resets whether a note is assigned as empty
- In search settings, only allow dragging a sample from in between the buttons
- Fix scrolling in the left side of the search settings when mouse is over a category or location
- Double click to reset keyboard layout
- In keyboard designer view, disable and dim all controls if no key is selected
- Fix bpm sync for previewed samples
- Dragging a loop from the keyboard to a sequencer step automatically sets the length to the sequencer number of steps
- Change the default note for new sequencer steps to the currently selected note
- Do not show warning for sample locations that are being scanned
- Improve warning message for sample locations
- Add instructions label for keyboard designer
- Display estimated time remaining for sample locations scans
- Improve performance of sample insert
- In search settings, cancel the previous samples retrieve query if it is no longer needed
- In keyboard designer, clicking outside of the keyboard clears the selection
There are still some tweaks I want to have made in the designer, but that will alos be done this week!

Hi all,
As I am writing this, the skies have opened here in Amsterdam. I hope you are having some better weather!
These last two weeks, we have been working on adding one of the most asked-for features EVER:
The Keyboard Designer!
You can now edit the keyboard, and next week, you can save those layouts as presets.
We are also now moving to update Randoβs design to make it less convoluted:

We are still working on fine-tuning colors and other small things.
Next week I will also share finalized designs with you for feedback as well.
What we have fixed in the last two weeks
Fix incorrectly analyzed BPMs
Fix Rando 1 preset import (presets were imported as the current Rando 2 version (2.1.0) instead of 2.0.0)
Stretch cycle buttonβyou can now warp samples as well that have no bpm (without having to use edit, set the tempo and then pressing loop)
Persist search settings expansion state between sessions
Change the way the locations and categories filter buttons work
Support resuming sample location scans and detect changes in sample location
Add context menu option to invert locked notes
Improve the colors of keyword field in search settings
Fix the loop indicator, which sometimes does not show.
Update the keyboard lock button design.
Ensure all white keys have the exact same integer width.
Fix incorrect scanning progress for large sample locations.
Fix missing similar sounds, favourite and folder button.
Use assigned key settings for similar sounds and randomize samples.
Fix similar sounds.
Update key colours.
Don't show loop indicator for disabled or out of range keys.
Only show current categories for selected or hovered note.
Update the design of the assign search settings to the key menu.
Don't show assign search settings keyboard while in search settings.
Fix lock controls did not work for normalize, pitch and stretch.
Update slice keyboard colour.
Add option to assign keys as empty.
Fix changing randomize settings was not undoable.
Replace "clear" button with reset buttons next to label.
Auto randomize new assigned keys after closing the edit menu.
Support assigning drum/tonal to keys.
Next week
Next week we will focus on tackling some of the other smaller requests and adding the preset saving part of the keyboard. After that we will start with finalising the filename analysis part and the Audio Classification workflow so it will become useful for all users.
I also am planning to send a survey to all of you asking some questions about OS, CPU, design, new features etc so hope you can help me with that!

Let me know what you guys think!
